F1 in Singapur – 300km/h in Singpaore
Singapore – the host of a F1 Race in 2008!?
“… Ecclestone said he could “squeeze” in another round of the circuit in Asia and give Singapore the slot….” (source)
The proposed racetrack passes by a lot of Singapore Landmarks and tourist attractions. And night racing at an inner city racetrack are definetly “Uniquely Singapore”. I think a F1 race in Singapore will bring a lot of attention and tourist to Singapore. Lot of people will come to Singapore and spent a lot of money. “…Estimated costs of hosting a race is estimated at around $50 million, but the level of tourist spending during the events easily offsets this amount….”
AsiaOne:
…”And another possible “Uniquely Singapore” element to the race to be found nowhere else on the F1 calendar: Night racing.
This would reduce the need for traffic disruptions…
- Start and finish lines on a floating platform to be constucted at Marina Bay, which will also house the pit lanes and race paddock
- Long, four-lane straight leading into a two-lane hairpin at the end of Esplanade Bridge.
- Raffles Avenue four-lane straight measuring 700 metres, which will allow cars to go beyond 300km/h
- Local landmarks that could feature in the course include the Esplanade, Merlion, Padang, Raffles Hotel, and Suntec Convention Centre, the Fountain of Wealth, and Raffles Hotel…”
